One of the core features of TrainingPeaks.com Athlete Edition that has been around the longest, and one of the most useful is that Joe Friel has built 475+ workouts that are available to users in the system. This library of workouts is organized and easily accessible from the Workout Planner.

The workouts are all based on Joe’s Training Bible methodology that he’s laid out in his numerous books. The Training Bible books are really the definitive reference to using TrainingPeaks.com. After all, the website was founded on the idea of taking Joe’s principles of training and enabling regular, self-coached folks the ability to put into practice the ideas shared in the book.

By going to the Workout Planner (Menu item: Training > Workout Planner) and adding a workout, you’ll select a sport and then see a dropdown menu of the workouts, sorted accordingly and shown in the screen here.

Certainly, to get the most out of this, you really need the book, but many people also find it helpful to browse through the various workouts to get an idea of different things to do. Quick tip, the dropdown shows a “brief description” of the workout, to get the full description, click the small “?” image next to the drop down and you’ll see a detailed description of the workout you’ve picked before you actually commit it to your Workout Planner.

Often people get a bit overwhelmed by the codes, but not to fear. Just know the codes are their for sorting purposes. E=endurance, T=test and so on, you’ll get details in the glossary online. They are organized from generally easier to harder (top down) within a certain letter category.

Dig in a and try it out.. putting structure to your training will return great benefits and help you meet your goals. If you want to take it further check out the VirtualCoach. But that will be a topic for another entry. Thanks for reading.
