Apple Developer Conference
8 August 2006
Jeff and I are attending the Worldwide Apple Developer’s Conference in San Francisco. It’s mainly engineers and programmers here to learn what’s new in the world of Mac. I must say it’s a very well run show. About 3-4,000 people are here and of course it’s a lot of the mac faithful.
We are here to learn what we can about making the leap to building native Mac applications. We even ran into a customer that uses CyclingPeaks yesterday and so it was fun to meet our own users. He even works at Apple!
Not much to report really, we are hopeful we can make it economical to port the code and even begin to make cross platform versions of future applications, but alas, we’ll see as we get into it. If anyone wants to pre-order the first copy of WKO+, I am taking orders, the price is $100,000
Fun stuff for sure.

great news. you really really really need to have something for the mac. i kep my old pc, just for tpeaks software………do you have any idea of how real this is ? a pipedream or are you serious ?
August 8th, 2006 at 5:00 pm
We are very serious, the decision is based largely on economics and priority. If we know we can seel enough copies to justify the substantial investment, we’d start on it immediately. But that’s the rub… So, if we were not serious, we would not have spent the money to travel here, pay the conference fee ($~1,200) etc etc. We really WANT to make products for Mac, and we’re a Windows shop right now, but we are starting down the path for sure.

YES! I 2nd, 3rd, 4th and ….. Simon’s comment. I really want to ditch my old PC so I can just use my MBP for Polar & SRM data u/l. I’ve tried using CyclingPeaks through Parallels in Mac, but SRM d/l fails. So if your after a registration of interest, you definitely have mine!

Brendan Gray, It is totally possible to get the SRM to download into SRM. I’ve dont it. Mail me if you want help at patrick@metcycling.com.
Secondly, I’ll prepay for an OSX version of CyclingPeaks! (but not $100,000)

I also only use a PC for CyclingPeaks. Thank you for being open to a Mac version.
They probably were at WWDC, but lots of questions can be answered here:

Ask on the wattage lists how many folks would be interested– I think quite a few, although they all already own CP…

Just wanted to add to my last post–
Also take a look at everything The Omni Group does.
They are OS X technology gurus, and give a lot back:

Check out the Omni Web Framework in the Source Code section:

And, consider using the new OmniPlan to map your OS X WKO+ strategy…

Great news that you guys are looking to support Mac users! I was using iSmartTrain to download the HRMs off of my S725x, but apparently the format was just a little off and wasn’t able to get it to upload. Had to go buy a gateway laptop just to upload HRMs. Thanks for looking into this!

I second that emotion… I’ve stayed away from Training Peaks and Computrainer because of lack of Mac Support… a certified gadget hound, I’ve used everything from Nike Triax, Polar, to Garmin 305… I’ve never met a training gadget / software I didn’t buy… as long as I can get it to work on Mac. I do not want to spend my money on buying a secondhand PC just to upload HRM data or the like. I would be anxious to try the Beta when it comes out and provide input as well.

Add me to the growing list… I am in the same category as the previous “anonymous” poster - a certified gadget hound (data man as some call me.) I will buy the first good MAC training software program…I hope it’s yours. gregnotlemond

Just purchased a new Mac so that I can run Parrallels, but would much rather run native apps. Like others here, any training product that supports Mac get’s my immediate sale.

I’m curious about how you fellows got your demographics that suggest that your market is primarily PC based. I am a Powertap user in Colorado and I would say that there is a pretty even split between Mac and PC users that own Powertaps. Could just be that I prefer Mac people…..
I’ll buy CyclingPeaks when there is a native Mac version, not before.
Thanks for looking into this.

You make it and I’ll buy it. Absolutely. I promise. One of the reasons I got an iBike was native Mac software. After 3 years of PowerTap saying they were going to come out with Mac software, I finally gave up on them. Of course they finally did come out with it a few weeks ago, but too late for them. OK I’m completely rambling now. Go for it!

I hope that TP does pull the trigger on Mac compatibility soon! You have a few more paying customers here. Thanks, Mac-using Pro Cyclists United

I have been using the Polar software on my PC for a couple of years, now and would love to make the switch over to Training Peaks MAC! You have my support, and another paying customer. Let me know if you need any beta testing. It’s so great to see more and more products being made available to the Mac OS X community. -J

I’m also user of WKO on my MAC with Virtual PC installed. I’d say if people buy $200-$300 software, $500-$1000 PC laptops just to run your software, you shouldn’t have any second thoughts about this people buying MAC version for fraction of the price. Plus have no more problems downloading, connecting and etc.
Go for it.
