Device Agent for Mac and Windows Released
17 July 2007Today we have officially released our Device Agent software for Windows and Mac users. We also took the File Viewer out of beta and updated our Daily Log upload system. Support for training devices is one of the key things we can offer our users. The ability to have your training information all in one place, across sports, has proven to be very valuable and convenient for our customers. Now it’s easier than ever with TrainingPeaks.com.
Device Agent:
A simple desktop application that communicates directly with your hardware and is available for both Windows and Mac (Intel or PPC) computers. This handy tool seamlessly downloads your device, then sends the information to your personal TrainingPeaks.com account.
File Viewer:
Built using state-of-the art Adobe Flex, you can interact with your data as if you were using a standard desktop application. Our next-generation Viewer is fast and powerful and combines GPS maps with your actual workout data in a single view. You can share your workouts with friends and just review your performances.
Here are some examples… click each one to see the actual File Viewer in action, you can share your own workouts just like this:
Daily Log File Upload:
We also re-plumbed our very popular Daily Log file upload system. It supports the direct upload of over 10 different file types and is an easy way to attach data files downloaded with other software to your TrainingPeaks account.
Click the Upload Data! button and then simply locate your data file on the next page:
On Windows, we support Polar, Garmin, Powertap, SRM, Ergomo, iBike, Timex and on Mac we support Powertap, SRM, Ergomo and Garmin.
Give it a try today with your device!

Why, why,why do you feel the need to fix things that aren’t broken. I now cannot see my files. I click on the viewer and I get a blank screen. And yes, I downloaded the latest version of your viewer. Please tell me how I can see my files.

You don’t have Mac Support for Polar? That’s what I’ve been waiting months and months for…
July 19th, 2007 at 1:26 pm
The Mac support for Polar is a ways off.. we are in deep talks with Polar to build this, but, short of hacking the data stream from the Polar, we would rather build a more robust solution, with full support from Polar themselves.

Our new Viewer requires Adobe Flash.. it’s easy to get, just goto:

We had to improve it and provide more functionality, there will be hiccups with new things, but overall, we feel it’s now a much stronger tool for evaluating workout performance.

How do you download from an SRM with USB cable? There is no option to do this, only bluetooth
July 19th, 2007 at 9:04 pm
Go to the SRM website at http://www.srm.de/usa/supp_downl.html scroll down and download the Mac drivers. Their cable is actually a serial to USB converter disguised as a single USB cable only. So, that means you need drivers. Once installed, you will see that port show up in the Device Agent and viola.. you will be able to download the SRM.

make sure you are not looking at smoothed data, which is the default view when it is first shown.. go to Options and slide the smoothing slider to zero (all the way to the left)

Gear, All:
I like the feel of the new file viewer, and appreciate the efforts to continually improve the site–and I’ve seen a lot of them since you all first went online.
A request to add one option to the file viewer, though: would it be possible to add an option to make the actual graph lines thinner? If one sets smoothing at zero, there’s a lot of points that become hard to pick out just because of the thickness of the line itself.
Thanks in advance, and thanks too for the work already done. All the best, and of course:
Ride smart, stay safe, have fun!

I have attempted to use this several times - in the Training Device Download section i see really weird times and dates for the workouts. I have checked the computer clockas well as the watch and both are set correctly. Has anyone else seen this?

Dahron.. thanks! Guess what.. thanks to your feedback, we have made the line-weight much thinner so you can see details better. Enjoy!

OMG! It works!!! I can get files off of the Ergomo, via the Mac, to trainingpeaks.com; then I can “download raw data” to save the workout file in Parallels/CyclingPeaks! Wow, what a great step, I’m back to training with power! Not sure if the data is correct yet but great to see, thanks a lot!

I use training peaks to watch all my workouts. Transferring my powertap is a piece of cake but the garmin is much more complicated. I cannot see to get the device agent to work for me
Help!!

I would like to use TrainingPeaks more. I have aa personal coach that would like to see my data. Unfortunately, I’ve never been able to get my Garmin data downloaded by any of the ways you have suggested. This is the most recent Garmin device, the ForeRunner 305. I would think you could get this download issue resolved. It has been weeks now. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Steve.. I emailed you, let me know if you can get things working.

Will the Polar CS300 work with the new Device Agent? Is there any way to download the data into Training Peaks? If not, can you be more specific as to which Polar devices are supported via training peaks?
Thanks.

I suggest you update your web site to show that you DON:T support Macs . I purchased your product so that I could use my polar HRM. No such luck. Why is always a workout around for MAC users
August 24th, 2007 at 2:53 pm
hey Karl.. not sure where you found on our site that says we support Polar natively on the Mac? The reason it is always a workaround is that Polar does not release a software development kit that works easily with Mac.. so, anyone that has mac support for Polar, has basically had to hack it, so you never quite know if you are getting all the data right or not.. anyway, sorry you didn’t find what you were looking for.

I downloaded the USB driver for Mac and still can’t get the Device Agent to see the USB connection. Any thoughts?
Thanks, Lee

It’s nice to see Device Agent out for the Mac. It’s a good start even though it’s not for me - a little out of my price range. I hoping WKO will be out in the near future. That’s a purchase I think will be within my budget and very helpful. PowerAgent is a poor substitute, but it’s Mac friendly and gets me by for now. I just want to say, keep it up and hope to see a Mac version of WKO soon.
