Scott Nydam’s Tour of California Stage 2 File

Team BMC Rider Scott Nydam was in a 100 mile Solo Breakaway in Stage 2 of the Amgen Tour of California
Scott Nydam has been managing his fitness through TrainingPeaks for a long time and Tuesday’s stage was a great payoff. He didn’t win the stage, but he did make it clear that he is one of the toughest riders around. It is ironic that such a soft-spoken rider was awarded the most aggressive jersey which also moved him up to 2nd in the King of the Mountains classification behind his BMC teammate Jackson Stewart.
Take a look at Scott’s GPS file from the stage 2 by clicking here.
-Download the file into WKO+…Export the map to Google Earth, Play the Viewer and zoom in on the tough climbs…and more!
You might remember a blog post which outlined how Scott and Levi Leipheimer use TrainingPeaks on a daily basis to monitor, analyze and plan their training. Scott is continuing to use TrainingPeaks WKO+ daily during the Tour of California to download his training devices and synchronize the data up to his online TrainingPeaks account so his coach, Danny Suter, can easily access the data.
Ground Control Elevation Correction
We had some fun with Scott’s Tour of California Stage 2 GPS file by correcting the elevation data using the Ground Control feature within TrainingPeaks WKO+. Ground Controlis an added feature available to WKO+ users who have a Premium TrainingPeaks account.
You might ask why would you want to correct elevation data collected from a GPS Device? Well, a common problem of today’s GPS devices is less than desirable elevation accuracy. This is an inherent problem that plagues GPS devices which is caused by the simple fact that GPS satellites are only above you, and a proper “fix” can never be obtained below you (through the earth) resulting in accuracy that’s roughly 1/2 as good as the horizontal position. What does that mean? Elevation is the least accurate component of a GPS position.. leading to obvious inaccuracies in your data files.
You can see below how Ground Control can be used within WKO+ to correct inaccurate altitude data.
Step 1- Access the feature by selecting the segment you’d like to correct, then open the “Edit” menu and select “Corrections” then “Fix Elevation Profile Using GPS.”
Step 2- Select Begin.
Experience the best software solution by combining WKO+ and TrainingPeaks together. For more on Ground Control click here and for a Free week trial of a Premium TrainingPeaks account click here
Go Scott and Levi and stay tuned for more files.
