TrainingPeaks Member Profile: Bree Wee, Triathlete

5 September 2008

imageThe TrainingPeaks team recently caught up with member Bree Wee, a professional triathlete living in Hawaii who finds the time to train in between taking care of her young son. Discussing the balancing act that she performs, Bree remarks, “My training schedule is completely insane! Having a young child and a coach who loves to push my limits, I am always trying to balance my life… my training varies from 2 hours (a major recovery week post Ironman) to 30 hours if I am at a camp. But an average week is 12-20hours. A lot of my training is solo because my life is so nutty balancing motherhood and being a wife to the hubby I have!”

Bree was first inspired to start training by her roommate. “My roommate was a marathoner, she was always telling me to run… I thought she was crazy! I eventually started to run, then joined Kona Aquatics Masters swim team… and from there I got my first bike. EVERYONE in Kona is active so I joined the fun. I think that constant challenge to push myself, set new goals, and the incredible adventures that come with each race keeps me coming back for more.”

Bree’s coach Paul from Lifesport got her to start using TrainingPeaks to track her progress, and she’s been using the program for over a year now. “I love it! It’s nice being able to log all my training sessions and compare over the months/year. It is also really handy for easy communication with my coach. I totally recommend it to others, hands down!”

I had a couple really good results, 3rd in Mooloolaba (non ITU), 3rd at St. Croix, 2nd at IM Japan, a couple wins at Lavaman and Honolulu Tri., and I gained a lot of needed experience at the Iron distance with Ironman Canada and Ironman Kentucky.”

When she’s not playing with her son, Bree really enjoys training and racing with the pros. “My favorite stories are getting to mix it up on the bike with women I have always looked up to, been a fan of. In St. Croix I was having a good ride and battling with Miranda and Nina Kraft on the bike, then I had Heather Gollnick and Lisbeth Kristenson at Ironman Kentucky… those were some incredible moments being in the mix with women I admire.”

Bree hopes to continue improving next season, especially with her nutrition plan. “For next year I am hoping to take everything another step further… swim, bike, and run faster than this year and I REALLY need to get a bit more educated in the Iron distance nutrition- it ruined me on the run in Kentucky!”
