Congratulations to the Marian University cycling team! The team, which uses TrainingPeaks and WKO+ software to manage its training, recently won its 4th consecutive USAC National Track Championship and 12th since 1992 when the program officially started. Junior David Williams won 2 individual events and won the overall best male rider award while Marian won all 3 team events: women’s team pursuit, men’s team pursuit, and collegiate mixed sprint.

“I believe we have a collegiate model that could be replicated,” said head coach Dean Peterson, “and I think as more programs develop like ours, you will see coaches begin to use TrainignPeaksP and WKO+ as a means to train growing cycling teams.”

Team rider Adam Leibovitz, a Junior National TT Champion and Junior World team member, is featured in a 7 page article in the current issue of Bicycling Magazine (November) titled Riding is my Ritalin. It is a tremendous article that begins to look at athletic alternatives to medication for ADD and ADHD children and adults.

Marian will be sending 2 riders to Collegiate MTB Nationals in two weeks and 6-7 athletes to Collegiate Cross Nationals in December. The final national event, USAC Road Nationals, will be in May 2010. The Marian team has set a goal to be a top 3 team in the country by placing high in all 4 disciplines.

The team received maximum points at track nationals and expects to be in the top 5 at cross nationals and top 2 at road nationals. MTB nationals will be a new experience for the team, and the goal over the next few years is to begin to recruit a handful of riders who have mountain bike backgrounds and interests.
