All New TrainingPeaks WKO+ 3.0 Now Available

16 December 2009

wko3smallWe are excited to announce the release of an all-new Version 3.0 of TrainingPeaks WKO+, our industry-leading workout data and power analysis software for endurance athletes and coaches.  It’s been over 3 years since we released a major upgrade to the product, far longer than we ever planned.  Suffice to say, we’ve been overcoming many obstacles and working hard to bring a lot of great new features to life.

I can assure you, we’ve been listening to your feedback over the years, so here’s a few things everyone will welcome. First, you can download and install version 3.0 side-by-side with version 2.2.  Use our simple migration tool to copy your data over to 3.0 and play with the 14-day free trial without worry of mixing up your 2.2 data.  When you’re ready to upgrade, its seamless.

We know, our licensing has been a challenge to deal with for our customers in the past, but we’ve always tried to be as helpful as possible getting you back up and running after a hard drive crash or new computer.  To remedy this, we’re pleased to announce an all new flexible licensing system. First, with every purchase we now allow you to install WKO+ 3.0 on up to two computers; second, we’ve built an online activation/deactivation system so you are free to move your active licenses from machine to machine.  Are you leaving on a 2 week trip? Just de-activate your home computer, activate your laptop, and you’re on your way. When you get home, de-activate your laptop, re-activate your desktop and you’re all set.

In addition to more flexible licensing, WKO+ 3.0 features Multi-File/Range Analysis, manage an unlimited number of athletes, Quadrant Analysis, Scatter Graphs, and seamless upload and download with TrainingPeaks.com.  Now you can backup your data files at TrainingPeaks.com, FREE!  Or, if you’re a coach, download all your premium client’s data files with the click of a button: no more export, drag and drop.. just click Download! The free TrainingPeaks.com Basic account included with every WKO+ 3.0 license provides not only free online data storage for athletes, but also added online training features like building routes, sharing workouts on Facebook and Twitter, recording nutrition, and getting expert advice from a coach or a training plan.

Multi-File/Range Analysis allows you to compare and overlay ranges within the same workout or across multiple workouts.  Want to compare intervals and see your performance in each? No problem!  Power profiling now gives you the option to use your 20 minute FTP, making it easier to see how you stack up.  The new Quadrant Analysis and Scatter Graph charts provide expanded analysis and comparison of your performances.

We’ve also improved the engine underneath to better handle Garmin “smart” recording, gaps, stops and TSS calculations too.

If you own a power meter, heart rate monitor or GPS unit, then you owe it to yourself to make the most of the information you get from your workouts, and WKO+ 3.0 helps you do just that. With new tools in version 3.0 like Quadrant Analysis, Multi-File/Range Analysis, and easy data transfer between TrainingPeaks.com and WKO+, athletes will have the data to help themselves become faster and coaches will have the tools to coach better than ever before.

Free trials of WKO+ 3.0 are available at www.TrainingPeaks.com/WKO where the software is available for $129. Owners of WKO+ version 2.x can upgrade for $64.50.

Stay tuned for many more updates as we enable compatibility with more training devices, roll-out new updates, and once again, deliver the best tools possible for your training and racing.

As always, we welcome your feedback at http://www.trainingpeaks.com/support

Lastly, I will be teaching (4)  FREE webinars on how to use Version 3.0  next week.

  1. Rich Wolf Says:

The flexible licensing would have been nice to have 3 months ago when my old computer broke.

But this still looks to me that if one of the two hard drives dies you will now only have one registered that works AND you’ll need to buy a new license when you get a new hard drive to replace it.

I wish my online premium service had all this analysis, then I would just use that.

  2. James Dicker Says:

Will the webinars be posted to TrainingPeaks? I would like to see the coaches one scheduled for noon on the 21st, but will not be able to get out of a scheduled appointment.

  3. maryka Says:

Still no user-customisable calendar fields, weekly TSS charts, or remembering basic preferences (e.g, keeping the Hide Blank box checked, or the default perspective as Show All), which is a shame.

New features are useful, but better usability would have been great. To be honest, as an individual athlete with a single computer, the upgrade is not worth it for me.

  4. Todd Says:

I would love to see this work with MACS. Wouldn’t pay to upgrade until you made it compatible.

  5. Dood Says:

I hope the newest version has the ability to enter much more manual data for workouts. By way of an easy example: I frequently do not discover my Edge 705 battery is dead until I jump on to ride. After my ride, I know from my long history of training rides a great deal of information – like total kilojoules, etc. It would be great to just input as much data as possible.

  6. Grant Says:

I’m another cyclist who would love to see a Mac version of WKO+. I think we would all appreciate knowing what TrainingPeaks’s thoughts are regarding this. Is a Mac version under development, or has TrainingPeaks just decided that the Mac user community isn’t large enough for them to make a profit? Please let us know, TrainingPeaks.

On a related note, does this new version include more data fields, like elevation gained? That’s an important piece of data that I collect (see my website for my year’s data analysis) and which hasn’t been available in TrainingPeaks.

  7. tony Says:

    No Mac version? Really?

I’m a fan of WKO+ but now I will look elsewhere for power analysis…

  8. Hamish Ferguson Says:

To be honest the new download system is a pain in the arse. I would have expected that an upgrade would have aimed to make this important task more simple, now you have to open a second programme. I have paid $65US to get quadrant analysis. Not impressed.

  9. webmaster Says:

Hamish.. the loading of the second program provides almost the exact same task flow as the old version. I guess we should have stopped developing when QA was done since that was all we needed to get you to upgrade :-) Thanks for your support!

  10. GoLactic Says:

In short, 3.0 has cleaner navigation with tabs at the top, and Quadrant Analysis in house. Personally I’ve felt the upgrade price is worth the new design touches, but if you don’t feel these “improvements” are worth the price then stick to 2.2 and stop bitching ya’ll…

  11. 2 Wheel Coach Says:

I just used the download from TP function for my entire athlete list. Awesome!! Now I can get data, workouts AND comments in one swoop. Very cool!!

  12. Denny Says:

I just bought a Mac and also wonder if a Mac version is coming? Also I don’t see that you have the ability to upload Garmin 310XT directly yet, correct?

  13. Owen Says:

It looks like 3.0 still has some old bugs in it (and some new bugs) wrt to Garmin devices. My TSS values are showing up way too low (6, when it should be 100).

  14. Certified Says:

It’s an absolute joke that this is not available for Macs. PC’s are great at the workplace, but Macs are almost as common at home, where most of us analyze our workout data. Training Peaks…you are missing the boat!!!

  15. Bill Cutting Says:

I agree with Todd, Grant and Tony. I have an old PC at home, but everything else is Mac. When you guys are Mac-compatible, then I can justify a paid upgrade.

  16. Dale D'anner Says:

Another Mac user here, yes there a lot of us. I don’t think I am going to bite at this one. You guys should think about a web-based app anyway, that way we can all use it! There are going to be some better options in the future, I’ll pass on this one sorry.

  17. Rob Says:

Seriously, a native mac version should have been included. You’re missing out on a lot of revenue. Please post any information you have about a potential mac release.

  18. JOhn Fraser Says:

I find it ironic that the best analysis software and the best operating system are incompatible.

  19. Rich Allen Says:

I’m another mac user who would love to get a mac version of WKO. I’m well aware I could try running it via Parallels or bootcamp but couldn’t really justify the extra hassell and expense of buying Windows just for this. The online system doesn’t appear to have a method for uploading Polar data from a Mac either, though Garmin is fine. So I’m still searching for the perfect software training/analysis system for Mac users, iSMARTtrain is the closest but nowhere near WKO in functionality and still a little buggy when it cones to Garmin data :-(

  20. Dan Says:

Mac user here, and I am also not interested in running Windows via bootcamp just for WKO. Is there going to be a mac version or should I just buy something else?

  21. Jay Dillon Says:

Another lifelong Mac user chiming in here. Would GLADLY pay the price for this amazing software “IF” and only “IF” there was a Mac version. Read through the comments here and see how many of us Mac users there are requesting this!

  22. steve starks Says:

another person that will not pay for anything until it’s mac-compatible. it’s a poor business model that deliberately ignores 15% of the market

  23. Sean O'Mahony Says:

Another Mac user chiming in. All serious athletes — professional or amateur — are Mac users. Everyone knows that ;-)

But seriously you need to get with the program and make a Mac version and while you’re at it an iPhone AP.

It really is a pain switching to Parallels for this.
