What's in a name?
Monday, August 21, 2006 at 6:07PM First of all, we have two "product lines" TrainingPeaks.com and CyclingPeaks Software. Lets start with CyclingPeaks Software.
CyclingPeaks used to be a single software product, but over the years, has grown into a familiy of products. Since it went from one product to several, we had to introduce names for specific products, they are: WKO+, ERG+, Real3D and CRS+. The products are basically named after the types of files they use or create.
CyclingPeaks Products:
- WKO+ stores its data as ".wko" files, a proprietary, highly efficient binary file format that enables us to do huge calculations extremely quickly. This software downloads devices and lets you visualize your fitness and workout information through tons of customizable graphs.
- ERG+ creates ".erg" files for the CompuTrainer. ERG files control the CompuTrainer in "erg" mode, that is, the CT guides you through a workout by controlling your efforts. Like running on a treadmill with the little lights and having the treadmill speed up and speed down as it takes you through a full workout.
- CRS+ creates ".crs" files for the CompuTrainer. These are 2-d "course" files that make the CompuTrainer get harder, as if you are going up a hill.
- Real3D creates ".3dc" files and produces "real 3-dimensional" courses that you can ride on a CompuTrainer.
Next post, I'll talk about the TrainingPeaks.com family.
