Device Agent: Mac Compatibility for SRM, Ergomo, PowerTap

Update: Now download the Mac Agent and direct download your SRM with your Mac

Today we are announcing the soon to be available Device Agent for Mac. It is a completely new, native Mac application (universal binary for Intel and PowerPC) that will download your training device, and instantly send your workout results to your online account at TrainingPeaks.com. This will also enable a coached athlete to upload data from their Mac, but have their coach download the data to their PC version of WKO+.

Below is a screenshot of Device Agent after having downloaded an Ergomo.

Device agent can work with multiple devices, below, a PowerTap, Ergomo and SRM have been downloaded, but the resulting workouts have not yet been sent to TrainingPeaks.com

We have had a LOT of requests for software that enables customers to directly download their device, finally we have an answer. The recent database upgrades that were performed were a key step to enabling the release of Device Agent, now that it has been completed, we can proceed to finish up development.

The Device Agent will be a free utility to all customers, but it will only work with a paid TrainingPeaks.com account (or a coached-athlete account).

Initially, Device Agent for Mac will support SRM, Ergomo and PowerTap devices. In time, we will support many more devices, but we decided not to hold up it's release while we worked on them.

Device Agent for Windows will also be released and it will carry support for Garmin, SRM, Ergomo, PowerTap, iBike, Suunto, Polar and more (just like WKO+). Direct download functionality for Windows users has been around a while, but this will make working with your hardware even easier.

Device AGent for Windows

The Device Agent for Mac has been a long time coming and you'll have to wait a bit more, it's not quite ready for release. Estimated availability is approximately 3-6 weeks, stay tuned for more announcements to come.

See Mac folks, we really are listening and doing something about it. :-)

No Polar abilities?

February 6, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterJosh

It's great to see. :-)

One question: can I download via Device Agent and then manually take the file and drag and drop into WKO on my Virtual PC/Parallels/Fusion VM?

That would possibly get rid of a lot of annoyances for me with Virtual PC and my Ergomo.

I ask because I can't analyze and view things as well on the web as in WKO , and that's important for a selfcoached triathlete like me.

I am a coached athlete (Per4mance Training in Pineville, NC) who uses an ergomo computer. I recently purchased a new iMac with the Intel processor, but found out very quickly that Parallels Desktop could do everything BUT identify the ergomo unit in the Windows environment. I understand the next major upgrade of Parallels will include a fix for this problem, but the news of Device Agent for Macs is the best news I've had in a long time and about $3,000. Please add my email address to your list and keep me up to date. Thanks!

Thanks, there are a lot of us out there that are waiting to get rid of an outdated PC that is in the house for only one reason: WKO !

1. will i be able to upload existing SRM files from my mac.
2. not to be naive, but will i just be able to USB my SRM to the MAC and download direct, no new devices, etc.

thanks!

A few answers to questions:

No Polar to start with, but it will be coming.

Yes, you will be able to download and drag a file into your parallels folder, then pull it into WKO running in parallels. However, it will be a tad tricky, the default is to send it to trainingpeaks.com, then "pull" it from the web into your WKO .

Yes, you'll just download the SRM directly to your Mac with the USB cable. You'll problably need to install the Mac SRM driver, but that's it.

For which OS? I have two computers, one with 10.3.9, and the other with 10.4. Or will this only be for machines with the Core 2 Duo chips? I bought about a month too soon with one of mine to catch the Core 2 Duo chips.

February 7, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterJon

It will be for OS 10.4 and above... Intel or PowerPC

February 7, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterwebmaster

when can I download this?

February 7, 2007 | Unregistered Commentertim

You will be able to download the Device Agent for Mac around the March/April time frame.

February 7, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterwebmaster

Is the TrainingPeaks link required, or can this device enable athletes to simply email the file?

February 8, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterJohn

The Device Agent will require a TrainingPeaks.com subscription.

February 8, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterwebmaster

So, let's see. This Mac "solution" is good for those Mac users who have a TrainingPeaks paid subscription. Ok, that should cover about 1/10th of all of us, of which I'm not included. Thanks, it's clear you are committed to supporting the Mac.

February 11, 2007 | Unregistered Commentertony

I guess I'm not sure I understand your problem with our Mac "solution"? We're a software company, making products for our customers. We don't get paid by manufacturers or anyone else for that matter, just our customers... So, yes, we are passionately committed to our subscribers to enable them to download devices using a Mac or PC.

Garmin 305?

February 12, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterTodd

Many, many thanks! Please let us know when you have the garmin working and if you need a beta tester for it, let me know.

February 12, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterBill Birrell

Thank the heavenly "MAC" gods... It is surprising to note even with some of the limitations we have with hardware/software programs and training software, WE WILL NOT GIVE UP OUR MACS!!!! It is easier to wait till someone fixes the problem about compatability, then switch back to pc. Again Thank You, who ever you are...

February 12, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterLrn

I have been a subscriber since the very early days. I am glad that my platform of choice will finally be recognized. It is quite tiresome trying to upload data manually. So much so that I often don't. Which is contrary to the whole idea of a "journal".

Garmin 305 or bust.

A HUGE thank you to the trainingpeaks guru's for letting us know this new agent is just around the corner, & keeping us updated. that's great news! :)
Keep up the good work.

Why can't you be equally committed and passionate about your WKO users who use mac's and have paid you for that software.

Announcing on the Wattage list and forums that you now have a Mac upload solution without even mentioning that it won't work without a subscription to TrainingPeaks is pretty lame.

You said "CyclingPeaks WKO and Mac.....It's not WKO for the Mac, but I think this is going to help a ton of folks..." Instead of building good will towards your mac customers you're gonna make a lot of mac users pretty pissed.

February 21, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterMacuser

Well, the first step to making WKO for the Mac is having hardware compatibility. That's the reason there are so few solutions for the Mac, it's not easy. So, we are solving that issue first. Then, we tackle the entire app. Sorry for your lack of humor at our "eye catching phrase" on the cyclingforums site. The Blog explains it quite clearly what you'll be able to do. Our Mac solution will be the Device Agent TrainingPeaks.com. Viola, now you can analyze power data, log and track your training, and never reboot into Boot Camp, use Parallels or anything else. That's a Mac solution for now. Note that you will be able to download your device using our free Device Agent, which produces a "cyclingpeaks.raw" file, and you will be able import that into your WKO if you are running Parallels or VMWare. Soooooo.. you don't HAVE to have a TrainingPeaks.com subscription, it's just a lot easier. Also, lots of our TrainingPeaks.com subscribers don't use WKO .

Bottom line, the Device Agent is step one, a native WKO for the Mac is in the works.. we couldn't possibly be more committed or passionate about it, trust me.

February 21, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterwebmaster

When I can attach my USB polar IR interface to my Mac and download my polar files (as well as Garmin and Powertap files) to a local app (like WKO), that had file compatibility with the XP version of WKO, all in OS X without Parallels or Boot Camp this will be awesome and I'm in. But the Polar support (which is probably the most difficult) is also the most critical.

Thanks for caring about Mac and please keep at it.

When will it be available ?
Where can I get it ?

Thanks,
