Team Columbia's Marco Pinotti: Mallorca Training Camp Review
Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 11:08AM Pinotti explains his 2009 goals and preparation plans: "My goal for the season will be to again reach peak form at the end of April and May for the Giro d'Italia. I will start racing in February in the Mallorca Challenge so I can use February to reach a good fitness level, then I will ride Paris-Nice."
Here is a summary of Marco's early January training camp below. He also let us know that he lost weight at the camp, having started at 69.5kg and ended at 68.6kg.
January 7th: Travel rest day. Flew from Rome to Mallorca.
January 8th: 4h30' ride with 4 lead out sprints, almost all flat terrain, rainy all day.
January 9th: 6h ride with two climbs at the beginning at low cadence.
January 10th: Easy rest day, a short ride on the time trial bike.
January 11th: First 50kms on TT bike with a team time trial of 22kms, then did another 3hrs flat on road bike.

6h30'. First climb was 23’ and averaged 242w with some low cadence work. The next climb was 30’ and averaged 289w. The last climb was 12’ at 325w. The last hour was on the time trial bike (no data).
January 13th: Easy day. Short ride.
January 14th: 5hrs 1 climb at a good pace (not all out for me, but close to 350w average), 5 sprints of 10" each.
January 15th: Long 7hr ride with short climbs.
January 16th: 3h30' with 5 sprints of 10" each. Flew home and took two days rest.
Marco also explained, “The next week of training was more intense than the training in Mallorca. The camp had long endurance rides, which is perfect at this time of the year. Now I can build on the endurance and add good performance rides.”
Good luck Marco. It seems your 2009 season is starting out just as planned. For more of Marco’s racing and training reports please click here.
