Neal Henderson of BCSM on Taylor Phinney and Centurion Cycling

Neal Henderson of the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine spoke with Dirk Friel of TrainingPeaks recently about Taylor Phinney's hopes for next season and a new style of grand fondo racing coming to the US next year called Centurion Cycling.

As the current Elite Pursuit World Champion, Taylor will certainly be focusing on the March 2010 World Championship Pursuit in Copenhagen, but he will also be doing quite a bit of road riding. "The World Championships will still have a pursuit, so our next focus really is end of March here, in Copenhagen... We've got some heavy road focus, we'll be on the road during Tour of Qatar, and then he'll be in Europe doing classics again, with a focus on trying to repeat at Paris-Roubaix."

Regarding the new classification of races with USA cycling, Neal is very excited about the great potential for the new grand fondo style Centurion Cycling races. "There's a whole new series of events that are going to be coming here to the US. They're grand fondo style events, which are big mass start, thousands of riders doing a course, and they're called the Centurion cycling events. They're based right here out of Boulder with Len Pettyjohn and Graham Frasier driving the ship."

"There's going to be 3 races in 2010: in July one here right around Boulder and Lyons, one in Madison in August, and then a championship out in Mammoth Lake in California. Each event will have a short distance 25 mile event on Saturday and then on Sunday is the big events, with 50 and 100 miles. Mass start, rolling enclosure, will be pretty spectacular, televised on Universal Television, lot of potential."

Sign up for one of the Centurion cycling events and get ready for your best race ever: start training today with TrainingPeaks!
