Congratulations Ironman Canada Competitors!

image Congratulations to all TrainingPeaks members who participated in Ironman Canada last Sunday, including TrainingPeaks employee Brad Culberson! Despite a rather nasty fall on the bike, he still managed to break the 12 hour barrier for a PR of 11:57:21.

“Passing one of the feed zones, I had to swerve to avoid a girl who suddenly stopped riding, and then I got clipped by another guy who came zooming past at about 15mph faster than I was going,” described Brad as he proudly showed his battle wounds off to everyone at the office. “After I got back on, I was imagejust hoping that my mom wouldn’t see the blood running down my arm and freak out when I passed her cheering a few miles down the road.”

Maybe it was the adrenaline from the fall, or maybe Brad’s pacing strategy was just better than the guy who knocked him down as he went whizzing by, but either way Brad had plenty of energy left for a PR in the run. “I was averaging about 9:30s for the first 13 miles or so, and then I slowed down a little to 10:30s until around mile 22, when I realized that I might actually be able to break the 12 hour mark. At that point I really picked up the pace, along with another runner who was also trying to break the same barrier, and we came in with just a couple of minutes to spare.”

Brad recorded his race on a Garmin 310XT for the swim and the run and a Garmin 705 with power for the bike. Check out his swim file here, his bike file here, and his run file here.

Congratulations again to everyone who completed Ironman Canada, and happy training for the next race!
