5 quick tips for TrainingPeaks.com
Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 9:07PM We do our best to let people know about all the new features that we roll-out on a regular basis, but sometimes its hard to keep up. Lately, we've been on a tear, so lets take a minute to review some great features of the new interface just one more time.
1) Dedicated iPhone, Android and Blackberry mobile web app
http://www.trainingpeaks.com/m
We built a lightweight, fast and simple mobile web app specifically for smartphones. It's easy to review or edit workouts and meals, and makes recording the basics of a workout a snap. It's also very handy for recording meals. (premium subscription required)
2) Customizing the calendar labels and the weekly summary
Experiment with the features of the Calendar by clicking on "My Settings, Calendar & Layout". First, make sure you enable the week summary. Next, choose your default screen upon login, choose the labels you want to see on the calendar, and the summary labels, and of course the number of weeks on the calendar too. With the ability to see both planned and actual distance and duration labels, reviewing your history or future workouts is easy. Don't forget, on the main calendar, you can also choose to see the Day View of the calendar for an "all in one" view of your days activities and meals.
3) Outlook, Google Calendar, iCal sync using a webcal URL (.ics)
Use your own private dedicated .ics webcal link to subscribe to your TrainingPeaks.com calendar from your work calendar. Clicking on "My Settings, Account" will show you the link. Here's more details on how to connect your other calendar to your TrainingPeaks.com calendar. Calendar sync is a premium feature.

4) Customize dashboard pods and detailed workout view
We only enable a few pods by default, but there are a lot more available in the pod library. When you are on the Dashboard, just click "View, Change Pod Layout" and the Dashboard Pod Library will be shown. Drag a new pod onto the Dashboard. You can even drag multiple pods of the same type onto your Dashboard, then configure them differently. For example, drag two "Training by duration" pods onto your Dashboard, configure one by clicking "Options" then select only "bike". Now you have one Pod showing all durations, and one pod showing just Bike durations. The same applies when viewing the Detailed Workout view (click a workout on the calendar, then click "View all Details"). There are different pods for the Detailed View and the Dashboard, you can customize yours as you see fit.
5) Save workouts and meals to your library
When you click a workout on the Calendar, the QuickView is displayed. Now, you can click the "Edit" button, and along with cut/copy/paste functionality for easily moving the workout or meal around on your calendar, you can click "Save to library". This will save the workout planned distance/duration and workout description to a workout template in your workout library, making it easy to re-use this workout later.
We hope these reminders help make your experience easier, faster and more useful! Of course if you would like to read more, we have a LOT of documentation on our Support site.

These aren't tips- these are ads for why to buy your product. Makes me not want to buy your product. What if ALL the tips you veer give are more reasons to buy more from you?
Well runnergirl, that’s kind of the point? Talk about the various feature of our software, remind and help users how to get the most out of it, and hopefully they’ll pay for a subscription. That’s our entire business model.
The link works for me and I appreciate the tips. Thank you!
I think runnergirl is trying to point out that she was expected tips on the ways to effectively use Training Peaks to support the training process, not exclusively the mechanics of using the site.
To piggyback on Runnergirl / Gordo comments, I'd like to see interesting examples of using different pods. Combinations that are useful for runners, cyclists, triathletes? Variations based on periodization or specific analytical goals, such as gauging volume level during base or approaching peak?
